Pierre Bachelet

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Pierre Bachelet (born May 25, 1944 in Paris , † February 15, 2005 in Suresnes , Hauts-de-Seine ) was a French singer .

Life

The beginning of his career

Pierre Bachelet was born in Paris on May 25, 1944. His family moved to Calais and then to Paris during his youth. He remained very attached to Calais, the city of his father's birth; here he liked to relax. He finished his film studies with a diploma and then went to Brazil to make a documentary, Bahia meu Amor .

Bachelet began his career in the advertising industry, where he met several filmmakers, with whom he subsequently worked. Bachelet increasingly wrote music for commercials and documentaries for his friends and acquaintances. The greatest success in this area was the music for the erotic film Emmanuelle by Just Jaeckin : 1.4 million albums and 4 million singles were sold. Bachelet was also involved in the films This is the end of it for me by Jean-Jacques Annaud, Sun, Sex and Snow Flurry , Gwendoline from Just Jaeckin and Sehnsucht nach Afrika .

music

Pierre Bachelet recorded his first song in 1974: L'Atlantique . It wasn't until 1980 that he released his first album, Elle est d´ailleurs . The song of the same name sold 1.5 million times as a single. The album was also the beginning of a long collaboration with the songwriter Jean-Pierre Lang.

In 1982 his second album contained the successful song Les Corons about the work and life of miners in northern France, which became a classic and became the anthem of fans of the RC Lens football club . Also in Welcome to the Sch'tis , the most successful French film of all time, which is set in the Nord-Pas-de-Calais region , where Bachelet grew up and which he sings about in Les Corons , lead actor Kad Merad agrees with the fans of the RC Lens Bachelet's song.

In 1982 the first major events took place: together with comedian Patrick Sébastien at the Paris Olympia , followed by tours in the French-speaking countries of Europe.

In 1984 he was the star of the Olympia after his third album. Two new albums followed in 1985 and 1987 with the hits En l´an 2001 and Vingt ans . His tours were guaranteed to be a success every time an album was released.

In the early 1990s, an album with live recordings and a first compilation of his best songs were released, but also a new album. His concerts took him to the French overseas territories in the Indian Ocean and to Québec .

In 1995 he brought out an album with songs about the city, the lyrics of which were written in collaboration with the writer Yann Queffélec . Queffélec and Lang were his two songwriters for the next album Un homme simple , but he himself wrote the lyrics for two of the songs on this album.

From the mid-1990s until his death in 2005, Bachelet continued his career, less in the media spotlight than in the 1980s, but with a loyal audience.

He died on February 15, 2005 in his home in Suresnes near Paris of complications from cancer .
