That settles the matter for me is a French comedy film by Jean-Jacques Annaud from 1979.

King rules football in the small French town of Trincamp. François Perrin waits in vain for a chance to show his skills in the city's first team. He's just a reserve player. When he fouled the city star Berthier in a training game, he was not only fired from the team. Because the president of the soccer club also owns the company Perrin works for, he stopped working a short time later. Over the next few months, Perrin earns some money doing mini-jobs that otherwise only immigrants from Africa do. During this time, Trincamp's passion for football increased, as the team successfully took part in this year's French cup competition. Perrin, however, has become the last person in Trincamp and decides to emigrate. He visits his secret lover Marie one last time, but her husband is at home and drives him away. A little later, Perrin was arrested for alleged rape. He thinks they are referring to Marie, but the comparison reveals that the woman is a Perrin completely stranger named Stéphanie. Nevertheless, she believes she recognizes the perpetrator in Perrin. Perrin is arrested because the two football officials Lozerand and Brochard also identify him as the perpetrator.
After two months in prison, the Trincamp soccer team sensationally made it into the top 16. On the way to the first leg, the team bus crashed and two players were eliminated. In times of need, Perrin is remembered and taken out of prison for the game. Perrin manages to escape. He drives to Stéphanie, who identified him as the perpetrator, and makes it clear to her that he was not the perpetrator. She, in turn, claims to have made it clear to investigators that she was unsure of the identification. Perrin asks her to drive him back to prison because he doesn't want to play football. However, both get into a police check and Perrin is escorted to the stadium. In the game he finally scores both goals and becomes the hero of the game, which Trincamp wins 1: 2. Suddenly his supposed act is unimportant, he is released from prison and is accommodated in the best hotel in town. He gets a rental car from Brochard, an apartment in prospect and a job as a pool attendant in the small town. Stéphanie, who has since corrected her statement, finds out that all football officials knew that Berthier was the culprit. They covered him so that he could stand on the pitch during the cup game. Perrin was knowingly sacrificed.
Perrin invites everyone involved who suddenly fell at his feet after the victory to a big dinner. Here he gives them his opinion, introduces Berthier as the perpetrator and announces various measures for the next day: He wants to break the windows of Berri's bar with a penalty , destroy all the cars in Brochard's yard and set the furniture of the dealer Lozerand on fire. In the evening he kidnaps President Sivardière's wife and announces that he will rape her because football stars do not have to fear sanctions. Instead, however, he lets her get out of the car in an uninhabited area and start the way back on foot. The next day, all the men took precautions. Berri has already ordered replacement windows for his restaurant, Brochard has protected all cars with tires and Lozerand has laboriously outsourced all furniture. However, Perrin doesn't care about the men and they are upset. Instead he goes to see Stéphanie, they have become a couple after all. He does not appear for the second leg of the cup: Trincamp loses 6-0 and is eliminated from the cup.

The film was released in French cinemas on February 14, 1979 and was seen by 902,144 visitors. It also ran in German cinemas on April 18, 1980. The film was released on DVD in 2011.
