Maurice Barrier

Maurice Barrier (born June 8, 1932 in Malicorne-sur-Sarthe , † April 12, 2020 in Montbard ) was a French actor .

Life

Maurice Barrier was the son of a carpenter and began working in his workshop after finishing school. In Rennes, he met some actors from the Comédie de l'Ouest , today's Théâtre national de Bretagne , and began to play regularly in the theater from the late 1950s. He remained loyal to the theater in the following decades and appeared at the Théâtre Hébertot and the Théâtre de Paris , among others . His most important award he received in 1998, when he for his performance in the play 12 Angry with the prestigious theater prize Molière as Best Supporting Actor Award.

From the mid-1960s he was seen in several films. For example, he played D'Artagnan in the television film The Seizure of Power by Louis XIV. He made his screen debut in 1971 with the two films Raphael, the libertine and musketeer with blow and stab . In both he played minor supporting roles. Up to the end of his career in 2008 with Marié (s) ou presque, he was involved in more than 90 film and television projects in a film career that spanned more than 50 years. He often played minor supporting roles or guest appearances. He was never nominated for a major film award.

Barrier was married to actress Hélène Manesse . This made him the brother-in-law of the painter Claude Manesse and the actor Philippe Manesse . He is the uncle of the actor Jérémy Manesse and the singer Sarah Manesse .

On April 12, 2020, Barrier died at the age of 87 in Montbard hospital during the COVID-19 pandemic in France as a result of a SARS-CoV-2 infection.
