Pietro Bertano

Pietro Bertano , also Pietro Bertani O.P. (* November 4, 1501 in Nonantola , † March 8, 1558 in Rome ) was a cardinal of the Catholic Church .

Coming from a high-ranking family from Modena , he entered the Dominican order, where he was tutored by Tommaso Badia , among others . He became an important theologian and taught in Bologna , Ferrara and Venice , among others . He became Ercole Gonzaga's personal theologian, as he was particularly knowledgeable about Augustine and Thomas .

He became Bishop of Fano in 1537 , served the Pope on a diplomatic mission and was involved in the reform work of the Council of Trent . Pope Paul III. had provided him for the cardinal dignity, but since this died, he was only on November 20, 1551 under Julius III. appointed cardinal priest of Santi Marcellino e Pietro al Laterano .
