Pimp C was released in late December 2005 after serving a three-year prison sentence for gun possession. Subsequently, work began on the compilation Pimpalation and the UGK album Underground Kingz . Pimpalation was created for the Rap-A-Lot Records label , whose founder J.Prince had given the rapper a Bentley when he was released from prison . Underground Kingz was later released through Jive Records , as after Dirty Money another album was needed to fulfill the contract. The publication of Pimpalation served, in addition to the presentation of the rapper's new material, to present the artists under contract with Pimp C's label Trill Entertainment .

criticism
The magazine Rolling Stone evaluated Pimpalation 2.5 of a possible five rating points. The review takes up the anticipation that had arisen on the sound carrier in the four years before with the slogan Free Pimp C. This is fulfilled by the piece I'm Free . The rest of the album, however, cannot live up to expectations.
Also, the Stylus Magazine is the album over negative rather. The rapper's missing solo songs are criticized and the sound carrier is described as too boring to be remembered.
The German hip-hop magazine Juice awarded 3.5 out of a possible six “crowns” to Pimpalation . In the evaluation, the compilation is referred to as a "coherent Houston mixtape with a few highlights". The editors have a negative opinion of the numerous guest rappers, who, in terms of the lyrical component of the songs, perform better than Pimp C. In contrast to Rolling Stone , the piece I'm Free is rated negatively and is referred to as a "smooth failure". This is mainly related to the choice of Tom Petty's sample. The title Understand me is highlighted as the highlight. This has been criticized positively, both lyrically and in terms of the instrumental.
