Piotr Greger
Piotr Greger (born May 28, 1964 in Tychy ) is a Polish Roman Catholic clergyman and auxiliary bishop in Bielsko-Żywiec .
Life
After graduating from high school in his hometown of Mysłowice , he entered the seminary in Katowice . The auxiliary bishop in Katowice , Janusz Edmund Zimniak , ordained Greger on April 10, 1988 as a deacon ; Bishop Damian Zimoń donated him to the priestly ordination for the diocese of Katowice on May 13, 1989 . On March 25, 1992 he was incardinated in the Bielsko-Żywiec diocese. He continued his studies at the Catholic Theological Academy in Warsaw and at the Pontifical Academy of Theology in Krakow , where he was in 2000 for Dr. theol. PhD . In 2002 he became the deputy director of the Theological Institute in Bielsko-Biała, professor of liturgy and chairman of the liturgical commission in the Bielsko-Żywiec diocese.
Pope Benedict XVI appointed him on October 22, 2011 titular bishop of Assava and auxiliary bishop in Bielsko-Żywiec. Cardinal Stanisław Dziwisz , the Archbishop of Kraków , gave him episcopal ordination on November 27 ; Co- consecrators were the Apostolic Nuncio in Poland, Archbishop Celestino Migliore and the Bishop of Bielsko-Żywiec, Tadeusz Rakoczy .
Episcopal coat of arms
His coat of arms, divided into three parts in blue, red and gold, shows in field 1 on a blue background a golden cross underneath the letter M, it is the coat of arms of Pope John Paul II. It has also been the motto, the cross of redemption including Mary under whose protection Bishop Greger himself represents. Field 2 on a red background, the head of John the Baptist on a gold platter. It is the coat of arms of his hometown Mysłowice . Field 3 shows bread and fish on a golden background, the symbol of the Eucharist also a reference to his name Peter the fisherman. Behind the escutcheon is the cross above the green galero with six tassels hanging down.
His motto is: In servitio Redemptori ("In the service of the Savior")
