Pyotr Nikolajewitsch Sedow ( Russian Пётр Никола́евич Седо́в ; born August 24, 1990 in Kremlyov , Gorky Oblast , Russian SFSR , Soviet Union ) is a Russian cross-country skier .

Career

Sedow competed in his first international competition at the age of 17 at the European Youth Olympic Festival in Jaca, Spain . There he won the silver medal over 10 kilometers freestyle behind the German Tim Tscharnke . He also won the bronze medal over 7.5 kilometers classic. In the 2007/08 season he started for the first time in the Eastern Europe Cup , where he was able to convince with ninth place in the pursuit competition in Rybinsk . This season he also had his first appearance at the Junior World Championships. In Italian times he was junior vice world champion over 20 kilometers freestyle (mass start) behind Philipp Marschall and won the gold medal with the Russian relay. A year later he became one of the most successful athletes and won gold medals in the 10 kilometer freestyle, in the skiathlon and with the Russian relay at the 2009 Junior World Ski Championships in Praz de Lys Sommand . This enabled him to work in the cross-country world cup . At his first start in Lahti , Finland , he managed to advance to the top of the world over 15 kilometers in freestyle in tenth place and to secure his first World Cup points. He also expanded his collection of medals at the 2010 Junior World Championships in Hinterzarten . He won the skiathlon competition, the silver medal in the relay competition and the bronze medal over 10 kilometers classic. Even at his only World Cup start in the 2009/10 season in Canmore , Canada , he was able to place in the top ten again in eighth place. He was surprisingly nominated for the 2010 Winter Olympics in Vancouver . There he finished 24th and 26th over 50 kilometers classic (mass start) and 15 kilometers freestyle. With the Russian relay he was eighth. His final breakthrough in the senior sector came right at the start of the 2010/11 season in Gällivare , where he finished fifth over 15 kilometers of freestyle. At the Nordic Opening, too, he placed eighth overall in the top ten. With second places in the relay in Gällivare and La Clusaz , he came on the podium for the first time in the World Cup. In February 2011 he won his first World Cup victory with the relay in Rybinsk. In the same month he finished 21st in the skiathlon at the Nordic World Ski Championships 2011 in Oslo . At the World Cup final in Falun , he came 12th and finished the season in 20th place in the overall World Cup and 13th in the Distance World Cup. At the start of the 2011/12 season he came tenth at the Nordic Opening in Kuusamo . In the further course of the season he came in the top ten three times in the World Cup. At the U23 World Championships in Erzurum in 2012 , he finished tenth over 15 km classic and sixth place in the skiathlon. At the World Cup final he reached 12th place overall. He won the final stage. In the overall World Cup he finished 24th. After taking a break in the 2012/13 season, he again completed a World Cup race in Davos at the beginning of the 2013/14 season and came tenth in the 30 km freestyle. He finished the Tour de Ski 2013/14 in 36th place. The following season he started in the Eastern Europe Cup . He got two wins and took third place once. In the overall standings, he came in fifth at the end of the season. In February 2016 he took in skiathlon in Syktyvkar his third victory in Eastern Europe Cup. After third place in the 15 km freestyle at the Eastern Europe Cup in Krasnogorsk in December 2016, he achieved 29th place in the Tour de Ski 2016/17 . In February 2017, he won his second World Cup win in the Pyeongchang skiathlon . At the Nordic World Ski Championships 2017 in Lahti he finished 31st in the 50 km mass start race. He finished the season in 29th place in the overall World Cup and in 19th place in the Distance World Cup.
