The Plankenstein (also called Blankenstein) is a climbing mountain in the Bavarian Prealps . It lies between Wallberg and Risserkogel and is 1768  m high.

The approach is from the toll road from Rottach-Egern am Tegernsee to the parking lot (Kistenwinterstube / Hufnagelstube) just before the Moni-Alm (length approx. 7 km), from there on foot to the right following a forest road over the Siebli-Alm and Riederecksattel ( 1500  m ) to Plankenstein in about 1.5 hours. The paths over the Röthensteinalm and the Plankensteinalm offer further opportunities for ascent from this direction.

Well-known climbing routes are the direct east ridge of the Plankenstein (IV point, III) or the west edge of the Nadel (VI- / A1, free VI +). Climbers will find routes up to difficulty level X- on Plankenstein. The Plankenstein-Nadel has one of the most difficult climbs in the Bavarian Prealps.

The ascent over the chimney-like west channel (normal route) has the II level of difficulty (Zebhauser: II and I). The light (but smoothly polished) rock should not be underestimated, especially since the last section before the summit is much more difficult (II). Beginners in the rock should therefore never climb alone, but only on the rope of an experienced companion.

A detailed up-to-date description of the normal route was published in 2012 with the rating II and the note that the tour is "usually made rope-free".

To the southeast below the Plankenstein lies the Riederecksee , to the southwest below the Röthensteiner See . The Röthenstein lies west of the Plankenstein . To the east of the plank stone is the Schreistein and to the south of it the snow floors .
