The court - book printing and the publishing Pockwitz were in the 18th and 19th centuries through generations family-run businesses in Hanover and Stade . In the 20th century the publishing house in Stade was taken over by Karl Krause .

Hieronymus Michael Pockwitz

The company's founder Hieronymus Michael Pockwitz (* 1723 in Erfurt ; † March 26, 1799 in Hanover) can be verified as a self-employed printer in Hanover from 1749. Eleven years later he held the title of court printer there, succeeding Georg Heinrich Lorenz Reuther .

From 1756 to 1764 Pockwitz worked with Johann Albrecht Barmeier , a printer and publisher in Göttingen .

Pockwitz was married to (the author ) Mar. Gertr. who gave birth to the daughter Rosine Catharine Louise , who later became widow Völker . In 1787 there is also a reference to “W. Pockwitz, jun ”.

The successors

After the death of Hieronymus Michael Pockwitz , according to Europeana, “Hieronymus Michael's widow [...] obviously took over a smaller part of his printing works, while the larger part went to his [younger] son Ludwig Pockwitz (1773–1839)” instead of the In the year 1800, however, Johann Thomas Lamminger , the first editor of the address book of the city of Hanover , which appeared from 1798 , was appointed court book printer.

From 1835 A. Pockwitz published in Hanover and Stade, and in 1893 as the publishing house of A. Pockwitz'schen Buchhandlung in Stade, at least 13 editions of the cookbook by restaurateur Sophie Armster .
