The Eylauer Lake District (Polish: Pojezierze Iławskie ) is a macro-region and lake landscape in the Warmian-Masurian Voivodeships in Poland . It is sometimes referred to as the West Masurian Lake District , which is historically incorrect as the region was never part of Masuria , but rather belonged to the Oberland (hence the name Oberländischer Kanal ). The region is about 4230 km².
location
The Eylau Lake District is part of the South Baltic Lake District , the easternmost area of which it represents. It is located around the eponymous town of Iława around Lake Jeziorak and extends to the Masurian Lake District in the east, to the Pobrzeże Gdańskie in the north, to the Lower Vistula Valley in the west and to the Kulm-Dobrzyń Lake District in the south .

The Eylauer Seenplatte consists of a multitude of lakes in a moraine landscape. Characteristic of this landscape are glacial channels between the hills, created by the erosive effect of the meltwater when the glaciers melted , which later took up the lakes.

Many of the lakes are connected by numerous canals, for example the Oberland Canal , which also connects the region with the Fresh Lagoon and thus the Gdańsk Bay of the Baltic Sea .
Rivers
The Eylauer Seenplatte drains particularly to the south over the Drwęca into the Vistula . Other important rivers are the Pasłęka , Osa and, on the western edge, the Vistula. It is connected to the Frischen Haff via the Oberland Canal .

economy
In the absence of industry, the region in Poland is considered to be economically weak. The economy is mainly focused on forestry, timber industry, agriculture and services, especially tourism.

The Eylauer Seenplatte is an important tourist destination with a large number of marinas , bathing areas, fishing opportunities, landing stages, developed long-distance hiking and long-distance cycle paths, campsites , hotels and restaurants . The White Fleet operates excursion boats on the Oberland Canal, among other places . Lake Jeziorak with numerous marinas, islands and bays is particularly popular with sailors .
