The Kashubian Lake District (Polish Pojezierze Kaszubskie ) is a mesoregion and lake landscape in the Pomeranian Voivodeship in Poland . The region is 3000 km² and up to 329 meters above sea level. The highest mountain is the Wieżyca in Kashubian Switzerland , the highest part of the Kashubian Lake District.

location

The lake district is located in northern Poland. It is part of the East Pomeranian Lake District . In the north, that includes Kösliner coastal land - separated by the Reda-Leba-glacial valley and the Damnica Plateau , in the north-east the Pobrzeże Gdańskie with the Kashubian coast , to the east, the Vistula-Nogat delta which, in the southeast Pojezierze Starogardzkie (Lakeland Starogard ) and in the southwest the Bory Tucholskie (Tucheler Heide) and in the west the Polanów highlands .

geology

The Kashubian Lake District consists of a large number of lakes in a moraine landscape. Characteristic of this landscape are glacial channels between the hills, created by the erosive effect of the meltwater when the glaciers melted , which later took up the lakes.

Rivers

The Kashubian Lake District drains into the Vistula or directly into the Baltic Sea . The rivers in the region include Radunia , Reda , Łeba , Motława , Wierzyca , Słupia , Łupawa .

Moraines

The Kashubian Lake District is higher up than the Pojezierze Starogardzkie, which is adjacent to the south. The highest moraines are up to 329 meters above sea level.

There are small towns such as Kościerzyna , Kartuzy and Żukowo as well as western districts of Gdansk and Gdynia in the Lake District.
