The Kashubian Coast (Polish: Pobrzeże Kaszubskie ) is a section of the Polish Baltic Sea coast and at the same time a mesoregion in Poland , which is part of the Pobrzeże Gdańskie .

etymology

Kaschubi coast after the West Slavic tribe of the Kashubian named.

location

The Kashubian coast lies in the west of the Gdańsk Bay ( Putziger Bay ) in the Pomeranian Voivodeship between the Hel peninsula near Władysławowo in the northwest and the Vistula estuary near Gdańsk in the southeast. The coastline is about 50 kilometers long and partly forms a steep coast with cliffs near Gdynia and Sopot .

West of the Kashubian coast is the Slowinski coast and the Kashubian Lakeland ( Kashubian Switzerland ), north of the Hel Peninsula , south of the Vistula - Delta and to the east, the closed Vistula Spit with the Vistula Lagoon on.

geology

The landscape of the Slowinsian coast was created in the Glacial Vistula . In addition to the glaciers, which have left sediments and moraines behind, the current of the Baltic Sea also shapes the coastal section, in which it transports the sand and, through the erosion, forms cliffs. In contrast to the Pomeranian Bay, beach lakes and shifting dunes do not appear here. The landscape is characterized by glacial valleys and moraines up to 50 meters above sea level.

tourism

Due to the regional industrialization, beach tourism plays a smaller role on the Kashubian coast than on the Treptow coast , the Slowinsian coast or the Hel peninsula . Nevertheless, the southern section from Gdynia via Sopot to Gdansk has a wide sandy beach. In addition, several marked (long-distance) hiking trails lead through the region, including the European long-distance hiking trail E9 on the Baltic Sea coast, and marked (long-distance) cycle paths, including the European long -distance cycle route R10 and the Vistula long-distance cycle route .
