Polyosma is one genus of plants inthe Escalloniaceae family . The Polyosma species occur in the eastern Himalayas and from southern China to northeastern Australia and New Caledonia . The genus includes about 60 species .

description

The Polyosma species are shrubs or trees . The opposite , stalked, simple leaves have a smooth or serrated leaf margin . The leaves turn black as they dry. Stipules are missing.

Terminal, racemose inflorescences are formed. The fragrant, hermaphrodite, radial symmetry flowers are four-fold . The four fused sepals have a long shelf life. The four petals are fused and yellowish-white or green. There is only one circle with four free stamens ; the stamens are hairy. The ovary is subordinate. They form lonely berries .
