The Pomeranian Bay - Rönnebank is a nature reserve in the area of ​​the German exclusive economic zone and the continental shelf in the Baltic Sea . The nature reserve is part of the coherent European ecological network Natura 2000 and combines the FFH areas Westliche Rönnebank , Adlergrund , Pommersche Bucht with Oderbank and the bird sanctuary Pommersche Bucht .

Pomeranian Bay

The nature reserve was designated by ordinance on September 28, 2017. It has an area of ​​209,200 hectares and is located east of the island of Rügen . The protected area extends from the northern edge of the Adlergrund south of the Arkonasee to the seaward border of the German coastal sea north of the Oder estuary and includes the Oder bank as the central morphological structure of the Pomeranian Bay. In the north, the terminal moraines of the Rönnebank with the Adlergrund separate the area from the Arkona Basin. The nature reserve extends from the northern edge of the Adlergrund south-east of the Arkona Basin along the outer border of the German exclusive economic zone with those of the Kingdom of Denmark and the Republic of Poland to the border of the German territorial sea. In the south is the northern approach or outer roadstead of the Polish port of Swinoujscie . There are different legal opinions between Germany and Poland. Poland does not accept protection in this area.

FFH area Westliche Rönnebank

The fauna-flora-habitat area Westliche Rönnebank is registered under the number 1249-301 and covers 8,601 hectares. The standard data sheet describes the area as: The western Rönnebank is the next onshore extension of the Rönnebank in the exclusive economic zone with the protected habitat type reef . Protected Appendix II species is the porpoise .

FFH area Adlergrund

The Adlergrund fauna-flora-habitat area is registered under the number 1251-301 and covers 23,397 hectares. The Adlergrund lies between Rügen and Bornholm .

The habitat types are protected : flooded sandbanks and reefs with macrophytes in the shallow water areas and large mussel beds down to a depth of 25 m.

The appendix II species are protected : gray seal and porpoise .

FFH area Pomeranian Bay with Oderbank

The fauna-flora-habitat area Pomeranian Bay with Oderbank is registered under the number 1652-301 and covers 110,115 hectares. The standard data sheet describes the area as: Central Pomeranian Bay, completely includes the German part of the Oderbank with an outstanding ecological function for fish, birds and harbor porpoises (large part of the particularly endangered eastern population of harbor porpoises in the Baltic Sea).

The habitat type is protected : flooded sandbanks.

Appendix II species are protected : porpoise , Baltic sturgeon , European sturgeon and feint (fish) .

Pomeranian Bay bird sanctuary

The bird sanctuary SPA Pomeranian Bay is registered under the number 1552-401 and covers 200,417 hectares. The standard data sheet describes the bird sanctuary as: Shallow water area, which completely includes the German part of the Oderbank and the Adlergrund, with an outstanding ecological function for birds.

The appendix I species are protected : black-throated diver , red-throated diver , little gull and eared grebe .

Be protected migratory birds : Razorbill , Black Guillemot , long-tailed duck , herring gull , common gull , gull , gull , black-headed gull , velvet scoter , common scoter , cormorants , grebes , red-necked grebe , common eider and guillemots .

The former Pommersche Bucht nature reserve of the same name, designated as of September 24, 2005, was 200,938 hectares in size and was incorporated into the newly designated Pommersche Bucht - Rönnebank nature reserve on September 28, 2017 .
