history
The first documentary mention of the place, formerly also called Unterpoppendorf , took place in 1403, when it was called the village of a Poppo or Bodo . Until the beginning of the 19th century Poppendorf was under the sovereignty of the Bamberg Monastery. The village and community rulership, which is decisive for state sovereignty in the Franconian region , was exercised by the Bamberg office of Forchheim in its function as bailiwick office . The same office also exercised the high judiciary , this in its role as Centamt .
When the Bamberg Monastery was secularized as a result of the Reichsdeputationshauptschluss 1802/03 and annexed by the Electorate Palatinate-Baiern in breach of the Imperial Constitution , Poppendorf also became part of the New Bavarian territories that were forcibly taken over during the Napoleonic land consolidation .
As a result of the administrative reforms carried out in the Kingdom of Bavaria at the beginning of the 19th century , Poppendorf became part of the independent rural community of Oesdorf with the second municipal edict in 1818 . In the course of the municipal territorial reform in Bavaria carried out in the 1970s , Poppendorf and Oesdorf were incorporated into the Heroldsbach community on May 1, 1971. In 1987 Poppendorf had 228 inhabitants.
traffic
The district road FO 13 coming from the state road St 2259 crosses the village and continues to Heroldsbach.
