Poseidon is a water coaster model Water Coaster from the manufacturer Mack Rides in Europa-Park in Rust near Freiburg im Breisgau .

history

The Poseidon water roller coaster was opened on July 12, 2000 for the 25th birthday of Europa-Park. It has since become one of the main attractions of the park as it is a welcome cool-off, especially in summer. The mixture of roller coaster elements and water rides made it unique in Europe at the opening. In the AquaShow Park in Portugal there is now an un-themed, but otherwise structurally identical copy.

As early as 1998, the Journey to Atlantis water rollercoaster, which was similar to the shorter part of the rollercoaster and was also developed by Mack Rides, was opened in SeaWorld Orlando and can be seen as a prototype for "Poseidon". In 2004 another plant of this model followed in SeaWorld San Diego .

Theming

"Poseidon" (based on the Greek god of the sea Poseidon ) is in the Greek themed area of the park. The station forms a large temple with 26 massive columns. The boats, which can hold eight people each, first pass through the dilapidated ancient city of Troy with collapsed houses and shipwrecks.

This themed part is left behind shortly afterwards and it goes to a height of 23 meters. From here the route includes steep inclined curves and runs alongside a Trojan horse, which forms the entrance to the waiting area, past an artificial lake. The journey leads through a canal in the lake past a replica Greek fishing village "Mykonos", then it goes to the second lift hill, which transports the passengers to a height of 20 meters.

After a 180 ° curve, the boats tumble down a steep descent, through a cave filled with water mist and over a small hill to the final splash. The passengers now drift past fishing boats and jetties to the station, where they can buy a photo of the journey at the exit.

dare

The Poseidon water coaster has 18 boats with wheels for rail travel. Eight people (four rows of two people) can be seated in each boat.
