History and creation

From 1909 the Berlin Postscheckamt was housed in a new building at Dorotheenstrasse 29 (today: 84), which integrated part of the former market hall IV , and was used by the cities of Berlin, Frankfurt (Oder) and Potsdam until the end of the Second World War , Magdeburg and Stettin responsible. Due to the division of Germany , the post office in Dorotheenstrasse was only used by the GDR's Deutsche Post . For the western part of Berlin there was initially no separate post office check office, which is why the post check office west was opened there in 1948 .

According to the plans of the Chief Postal Director Prosper Lemoine , the building of the Postscheckamt Berlin West was built from 1965 to 1971. In 2014, the CG Group bought the building from Postbank, which continued to use the building as a tenant until mid-2016. After Postbank has moved out, the skyscraper is to be renovated and converted into a residential and hotel complex.
