Prapořiště is located in the Neugedeiner furrow between the Bohemian Forest and the Upper Palatinate Forest . The village lies on the left over the valley of the Zahořanský potok above the confluence of the Starecký potok. The Neumarker Pass is south of the village . Ten kilometers to the northwest is the town of Domažlice and six kilometers south of Všeruby is the border with Germany. The railway line Janovice nad Úhlavou – Domažlice runs in a loop around Prapořiště, to the east of the village is the Kdyně train station. The Bezný (658 m) and the Čepice rise to the south.

Neighboring towns are Kdyně in the northeast, Brnířov in the east, Nová Ves in the south, Brůdek in the southwest, Starec in the west and Kout na Šumavě in the northwest.

history

The village was first mentioned in writing in 1452. Originally a German-speaking village, the Czech language spread in the village, as the next school was in the mostly Czech-speaking town of Neugedein / Kdyně. In 1890 Braunbusch / Prapořiště consisted of 82 houses in which 306 Germans and 247 Czechs lived, in 2001 there were 406 inhabitants in 146 houses.

Attractions

Chapel of St. John the Baptist
  • Chapel of John the Baptist from the 19th century, until the renovation in 1921 it was consecrated to St. John Nepomuk.
  • At Brůdek (Viertl) there is the church of St. Anna on the Tannaberg. It was built in the 18th century by Marco Gilmetti and has an atypical oval floor plan. The pastor's office and school used to be near the church. Today no villages belong to the church and the only parishioner is the dean from Kdyně. Pilgrims from the Czech Republic and Germany come to the festival on July 26th.
