Predrag Samardžiski ( Macedonian Предраг Самарџиски ; born November 4, 1986 in Skopje , SR Macedonia ) is a Macedonian basketball player . Samardžiski played professionally mainly in the Serbian capital Belgrade for the clubs Partizan, FMP Železnik and Red Star. In addition to the Turkish club Olin Edirne, he was also active for one and a half seasons for the internationally successful club Lietuvos rytas from Vilnius, Lithuania . Since January 2013, Samardžiski has been back in Belgrade for Red Star, who had previously merged with FMP Železnik, in which he had already been active for five seasons.

Career

Samardžiski made his senior debut in the 2004/05 season with the Serbian series champion KK Partizan. They won the national championship again, but lost the final of the Adriatic Basketball League in 2005 against the Serbian runner-up KK Hemofarm from Vršac . Samardžiski, however, moved in 2005 to Belgrade local rivals FMP Železnik, who had won the Adriatic League in 2004 as a reflex. As Železnik, they won the Adriatic League again in 2006 by one point in the final against KK Partizan, who again had to be satisfied with the national title and the last joint championship of Serbia and Montenegro in 2006. Then KK Partizan was unbeatable both in the finals of the Adriatic League and in the Serbian championship. Samardžiski reached the final of the Adriatic League with Železnik as defending champion in 2007, which was exceptionally played as a play-off series and was lost in two games against Partizan. In the national championship one was subsequently always eliminated before the final series.

In 2010 Samardžiski moved for the first time outside the former territory of the old Yugoslavia and played a season with Olin from Edirne in the Türkiye Basketbol Ligi . Olin reached the play-offs for the Turkish championship, where they were defeated in the first round in the maximum number of games to the main round second Banvit BK . Samardžiski is one of the five best players in this category in the league with just under nine rebounds per game; Thanks to high field throw rates and at least more than two assists per game, he was also one of the ten best players in the effectiveness rating of the main round. For the following season Samardžiski moved to the Lithuanian runner-up Lietuvos rytas from Vilnius, who, however, could not get back the championship title against Žalgiris Kaunas and lost the championship final series in 2012 in three games. The final game of the Baltic Basketball League was lost against Žalgiris. Only in the supranational, Eastern European VTB United League 2011/12 , they placed themselves in front of their eternal rivals from Kaunas, after winning the quarter-finals against the Russian runner-up BK Chimki and also the game for third place. But they lost in the 2011/12 Eurocup at the final tournament in Chimki the semi-final game of the only two clubs that have been successful twice against the Valencia Basket Club , which however lost the final against hosts BK Chimki. With a victory over BK Spartak Saint Petersburg they took third place here too. For the following season they qualified for the highest European club competition ULEB Euroleague 2012/13 . Here, however, they failed in the preliminary round in the fight for the last qualification place for the intermediate round at the German double winner Brose Baskets from Bamberg and Samardžiski's ex-club Partizan Belgrade.

After early retirement in the ULEB Euroleague, Samardžiski left the Lithuanian club in January 2013 and returned to Belgrade, where FMP Železnik had now merged with KK Roter Stern. After winning the Cup in Serbia, however, they lost the final both in the Serbian championship and in the ABA league against Partizan. Then Samardžiski moved from Belgrade to Turkey again and played for the club from Mersin in the 2013/14 season .

National team

In 2009 the Macedonian national basketball team for men reached a final of the European basketball championship for the first time since 1999, when Petar Naumoski was still active . At the 2009 European Championship finals in Poland , led by the naturalized American Jeremiah Massey, they reached the intermediate round , where they defeated a young German national basketball team and ended up ninth.

Two years later you could qualify again for the 2011 European Championship in Poland's neighboring country Lithuania . Instead of Massey, Macedonia was now led by the naturalized Bo McCalebb , with whom one surprisingly advanced into the " knockout games " of the final round of the top eight teams. After a quarter-final victory over the favored hosts Lithuania , they narrowly missed a medal in the following two defeats against tournament winners Spain and in the "small final" against Russia .
