The Trumer Privatbrauerei , formerly the Josef Sigl private brewery , is located in Obertrum am See near Salzburg and was founded in 1601. In 2006 the name was changed to the current company name. The Trumer Privatbrauerei is an eighth generation family company. Beer has been brewed in Obertrum am See since 1601. The brewery has been owned by the Sigl family since 1775 and is currently managed by Josef C. Sigl in the eighth generation.

history

On December 22nd, 1601, Archbishop Wolf Dietrich von Raitenau granted brewing law in Obertrum. 1775 acquired Josef Sigl I., councilor and hops traders from the Passauer country market Perlesreut , the tavern and "Braxatur" in the upper strand in an auction process for the sum of 12,000 florins .

In November 1800 Napoleon's troops marched across the country. Parts of the brewery and the entire harvest were devastated by a fire. Josef Sigl I was soon able to rebuild the building. Josef II. Simon and Josef II. Coelestin, the successors of Josef Sigl I, acquired further properties in Obertrum in 1848. Due to the fundamental relief of the revolutionary year 1848, many properties became the sole property of the Sigl family. A considerable fortune was bequeathed to Josef Sigl IV, which he was able to expand.

In 1909 the family business was modernized. The brewhouse and cellar buildings were built at the current location of the Trumer private brewery . The brewery was the first building in Obertrum to be equipped with direct current . The family property was continuously expanded. After the fire of May 21, 1917, Obertrum was in ruins. In 1928 Josef Sigl V. died. In 1937 the company was handed over to Josef Sigl VI., Who completed his studies at the Weihenstephan University of Applied Sciences . Towards the end of the Second World War , the US battalion command confiscated the brewery inn and used it as their headquarters.

In 1952 Sigl brought the "Hellen Bock" onto the market for the first time. In the following years the brewery was adapted to the latest technical standard. The administration building, the brewhouse, the boiler house, the stacking hall and the wheat beer cellar were rebuilt.

In 1972 the product range was expanded to include "wheat gold". The Republic of Austria awarded him the Silver Medal of Honor, the municipality of Obertrum made him an honorary citizen and the stronghold of the industry, Munich, honored him as the first and so far only Austrian with the Bavarian Beer Order in 1983.

Josef Sigl VII studied in Weihenstephan and Vienna. In 1985 he took over the family company as the sole managing general partner and restructured the brewery into a technologically highly qualified production facility. Josef VII decided to focus in future on the product niche of Pils. In 1997 the Weizengold brand was sold to the Stiegl Brewery in Salzburg.

In 1992 the Beer-Bop-Collection was created around the SIGLs brand. SIGLs is Austria's first unconventional bottled beer with a zipper. The Trumer private brewery developed the world's first hand-blown beer glasses in 1997. The "slim bar" was awarded the prize for the most beautiful beer glass in the world and exhibited in the Museum of Modern Art in New York City .

In 2004, Trumer Pils was launched on the US market in collaboration with Carlos Alvares, owner of Gambrinus Brewery. Trumer Brewery USA opened in Berkeley, California. Trumer Pils has been brewed there for the American market ever since. In the same year Trumer received the gold medal for the first time at the European Beer Star in the category “Pilsner from the German brewing style”.

In 2006 the new fermentation cellar, in which the patented open fermentation takes place, was opened. Trumer also won the World Beer Cup in the “Best German Style Pilsener” category and again the European Beer Star in the “German style Pilsner” category.

In 2012, the Trumer Privatbrauerei was the first Austrian brewery to undergo the strict “Slow-Brewing” certification and has since received the Slow-Brewing seal of approval year after year.

In 2013, Josef Sigl VII handed over the management of the brewery to his son Josef C. Sigl, who is now the eighth generation to run the family business.

The light pilsner creation “Trumer Hopfenspiel”, which is new on the market, received an award in the 2014 International Craft Beer Award in the “Pils experimental style” category. Further platinum awards followed in 2016 and 2017.

In 2016, in collaboration with the glass manufacturers Spiegelbau and Georg Riedel, the “Craft Pilsner Glass” was developed especially for the “Pilsener German Style” variety. In addition, the brewery again won the gold medal at the World Beer Cup in the “German Style Pilsener” category.

particularities

Brewing process

In the context of open fermentation , the metabolic products that are harmful to the taste of the beer, such as tannins and bitter substances, are removed from the beer during fermentation . This method is labor-intensive and cost-intensive and is only used in a few breweries. The beers are not pasteurized .

Natural hops

The Trumer Privatbrauerei only uses natural hops from selected hop farmers.

Experience gastronomy

Guided tours and beer sommelier courses are offered in the Trumer Welt . In Kiesbye's BIERkulturHAUS, the former CreativBrauerei, visitors have had the opportunity since July 2000 to brew their own beer under the guidance of a trained brewer.

Beer cellar

The Trumer beer cellar was built by Josef Sigl II in 1813/1814. The so-called front cellar served as a fermentation and storage cellar for the brewery. The historical vault with its exposed stone masonry was renovated in 1997 and adapted to an event room.

Beer fountain

The Trumer beer fountain is located on the village square in Obertrum. On festive occasions, two pipes inside the fountain make it possible to tap beer instead of water.

Trumer Beer Machine

The Trumer Beer Machine was presented in November 2010 in Salzburg as part of the gastronomy trade fair “ Alles für den Gast ”. The Beer Machine is a Rube Goldberg machine . The video presented as a viral spot on YouTube had over 250,000 views within six months.
