Puleva , acronym for Pu ra Le che de Va ca ( Spanish for pure cow's milk), is a company in the dairy industry , market leader in the Spanish dairy sector, based in the Andalusian city of Granada ( Spain ). It is part of the French Lactalis group .

history

The Union of the Viticulture Industry

In April 1910, a group of business and hospitality professionals from Granada established the Union of the Viticulture Industry ( Unión Vinicola Industrial ) with the aim of coordinating the sale of wine and spirits . Later, ice cream and soda water began to be produced and sold.

The formation of UNIASA

In the mid- 1950s , the supply of the milk processing industry was regulated by law for reasons of food safety . In 1958 the company applied for permission to become the central dairy company for the city of Granada , which was granted and changed its name to UNIASA (Unión Industrial y Agroganadera SA).

The first plants allowed a daily production of 20,000 liters of pasteurized milk from the plains of Granada (Vega de Granada).

The 1960s

Right from the start there were difficulties in guaranteeing constant storage of the goods, especially due to the seasons. These problems forced the company to produce longer-lasting products such as milk powder, butter and later also frappés. Expansion of the plant was necessary in 1961, 1966, 1968 and 1970. Daily production reached 200,000 liters of milk in the late 1960s .

The 1970s

In the 1970s, rapid growth in the Andalusian provinces and the rest of the country resulted in the company building a completely new plant in Granada in 1975 , which is currently still in operation. The daily milk production there was 400,000 liters.

The 1980s

UNIASA was listed on the stock exchange in 1976 and was declared particularly suitable for stable reserves of insurance companies and other funds in 1981.

In 1982 UNIASA acquired the majority in the Compañía de Dietéticos y Alimentación SA (EDDA), which at the same time entered the baby food sector: baby milk and farine lactée (baby food) for porridge.

In the same year, the company also started producing pure milk. In the course of this time the herd reaches up to 10,000 cows. In addition, cheese production begins in 1982, with a capacity of 1000 tons per year.

Between 1987 and 1988 the company acquired the Coopérative d'Élevage La Merced, which had the central dairy in Cadix , Comercial Malagueña SA (COLEMA), Producción Lactaria de Andalucía (PROLAN) from Séville and LEDESA SA in Salamanque .

The 1990s

On June 29, 1992, the general meeting of shareholders approved the change of the name of UNIASA, which one month later became Puleva Unión Industrial y Agroganadera, SA.

In 1992 the new baby food factory and a combined heat and power plant , better known as Grelva (Granada, Electricidad y Vapor), were inaugurated.

In 1997, for the sake of simplicity, the company decided to take the name of their dairy company and has been called Puleva SA ever since.

The 2000s

Between 1999 and 2000, Puleva acquired the majority of the Leyma / Ram group, and then that of the Granja Castelló group, making it the leader in the Spanish dairy business.

On October 23, 2000, Puleva and Azucarera Ebro Agrícolas announced their merger, which was confirmed by shareholders on December 13. This is how the Ebro Puleva Group and its subsidiary Puleva Food SL came into being

In 2001, Yofres was founded, a company specializing in the production of yoghurt and dairy desserts. In April 2005, Ebro Puleva acquired 100 percent of Panzani.

In 2007, the Spanish group Puleva Birkel bought for 30 million euros

Puleva dairy has been part of Lactalis since September 2010 .

There are currently 5 production sites in Granada (1 million liters per day), Nadela ( Lugo province ), León , Mollerussa ( Lleida province ) and Alcalá de Guadaíra ( Seville province ).
