Quercus emoryi is an evergreen woody plant that keeps its leaves through the winter until new leaves appear in the following spring. Quercus emoryi grows as a large shrub or small tree and reaches heights of 5 to 17 meters.

The leaves are 3 to 6 inches long, their edge is wavy and serrated. The upper side of the leaf is dark green and the lower side is lighter.

The acorns are 1.5 to 2 inches long and blackish-brown.
