The Quinuabamba district is located in the Pomabamba Province in the Ancash region in western Peru . The district was established on September 26, 1941. It has an area of ​​150 km². The 2017 census counted 2328 inhabitants. In 1993 the population was 2729, in 2007 it was 2494. The district administration is located in the 3108  m high village of Quinuabamba with 236 inhabitants (as of 2017). Quinuabamba is located 15 km northeast of the provincial capital Pomabamba .

Geographical location

The Quinuabamba District extends over the south-east of the Pomabamba Province. The Río Marañón flows along the eastern border of the district in a north-northwest direction, two smaller tributaries border the district in the south and north.

The Quinuabamba district borders in the southwest on the Pomabamba district , in the northwest on the Parobamba district , in the east on the Huacrachuco district ( Marañón province ) and in the south on the Fidel Olivas Escudero district ( Mariscal Luzuriaga province ).
