The Río Tiwanaku is an endorheic river to Lake Titicaca in the South American Andean highlands of Bolivia .
The Río Tiwanaku has a total length of 77 km. Rivers in Bolivia often do not have a continuous name in their course, and this also applies to the Río Tiwanaku.
Río Khara Willkhi
The river bears the name "Río Khara Willkhi" for the first sixteen kilometers of the upper course. It rises in the municipality of Laja in the province of Los Andes on Ruta 43 at an altitude of 4045 m . For the first six kilometers, it follows the highway that leads from the border with Peru via Santiago de Machaca to Viacha , in a north-easterly direction, and then turns to the north-west.
Río Guaquira
The middle course of the river is named "Río Guaquira" for about 35 kilometers and continues to flow in a north-westerly direction. 42 kilometers from its mouth, it crosses the Ruta 1 highway at the village of Curva Pucará, which leads from El Alto to the border town of Desaguadero . The river changes here from the Municipio Laja to the Municipio Pucarani .
Río Tiwanaku
Only for the last 27 kilometers from the village of Tiawanacu does the river bear the name "Río Tiwanaku". Here, too, it flows largely in a north-westerly direction and flows into Lake Titicaca after a total of 77 kilometers in the Gulf of Taraco .
