history

The place Röthenbach goes back to an iron hammer , which was already mentioned in the medieval Salbüchlein of Charles IV . A blast furnace that produced pig iron was still in operation there until 1880.

From the middle of the 18th century to 1928 there was a glass industry in the village , first processing plants, then also a glassworks . A listed glassworker's house from this period has been preserved, as well as the building colored with polished red, in which the glass polishing plant was housed until 1928. The castle chapel with a Doser altar is also worth seeing .

Recognized as a country estate , the Hammerschloss, built in 1678, with the castle chapel of the Conception of the Virgin Mary (1728) and brewery and agricultural buildings, was converted into a second class patrimonial court in 1818 . With the repeal of the patrimonial courts in Bavaria by law of June 4, 1848, the place came administratively to Markt Kohlberg.

In the age of industrialization, the population grew from 121 in 1864 to over 260 in 1910. After all farms were closed at the end of the 1960s, the population fell to less than 150.
