Raúl Velasco

Raúl Velasco Ramírez (born April 24, 1933 in Celaya , † November 26, 2006 in Acapulco ) was a Mexican television presenter and producer.

Velasco initially worked as an accountant and bank clerk in his hometown. He then went to Mexico City and began his television career as a presenter of the programs Media Noche and Domingos Espectaculares on Televisión Independiente de México . At the request of Emilio Azcárraga Milmo , the owner of Televisa , he took over the show Siempre en Domingo there in 1969 , which he hosted until 1998. With this show, which initially lasted nine hours, Velasco became extremely popular in Mexico and the "godfather of the stars". In the 1980s, Velasco had heart surgery, and after a liver transplant from hepatitis in 1998, he retired from television and broadcast. In 2002 he published the book Reflexiones para vivir mejor , after which he brought out seven record collections with the titles La fe , La compasión , La esperanza , La justicia , La fortaleza , La bondad and La libertad . In 2006 Televisa hosted a great tribute to him in Acapulco. In the same year he died of complications from hepatitis.
