Raffaele Cosimo de 'Girolami , also Raffaele Cosimo De Girolami (born September 10, 1670 in Florence , † February 21, 1748 in Rome ), was an Italian cardinal of the Roman Church .

Life

He was the younger of the two children of Piero Zanobi de 'Girolami and his wife Maria Caterina Canigiani. Raffaele Cosimo de 'Girolami studied at the University of Pisa and obtained there on June 9, 1695 the academic degree of Doctor iuris utriusque . He continued his studies at the University of Florence , where he received his master's degree in theology on November 24, 1699 . From 1688 to 1699 he was canon of the cathedral chapter in Florence until he gave up this office and moved to Rome. In 1690 he became a member of the Florentine Accademia della Crusca . There he became an employee of Cardinal Renato Imperiali . On December 4, 1710 he became a trainee lawyer for the Apostolic Signature . He was later appointed consultor to the Congregation of the Roman and General Inquisitions and the Congregation of Rites. From 1721 he was secretary of the Congregation for Indulgences and Holy Relics . The ordination received Raffaele Cosimo de 'Girolami on 25 July 1726th

He was named titular archbishop of Tamiathis on March 8, 1728 . He was ordained bishop on April 11, 1728 in the church of San Giovanni dei Fiorentini by Pope Benedict XIII. ; Co-consecrators were Archbishop Francesco Scipione Maria Borghese and Bishop Nicola Saverio Santamaria . From May 1728 to April 1737 he was Assessor of the Congregation for the Roman and General Inquisitions, then Secretary of the Congregation for Bishops and Regulars . He was considered an excellent theologian.

In the consistory of September 9, 1743 it created Pope Benedict XIV. To Cardinal priests , the red hat Raffaele Cosimo de 'Girolami received on 12 September of the same year, and on September 23, 1743, he was San Marcello as a titular church allocated. On the same day he became prefect of the Congregation for Indulgences and Holy Relics, which he remained until his death.
