Rainer Arlt

Rainer Arlt (born January 20, 1928 in Duisburg , † April 7, 1997 in Potsdam-Babelsberg ) was a German agricultural law scholar , university professor and politician of the Socialist Unity Party of Germany (SED) in the German Democratic Republic (GDR). He was rector of the Academy for Political Science and Law of the GDR and from 1963 to 1971 a member of the People's Chamber .

Life

After graduating from high school , Arlt, the son of a machine setter, studied law at the Humboldt University in Berlin from 1946 to 1949 and then became an aspirant for civil law at the Karl Marx University in Leipzig . In 1945 Arlt joined the KPD and became a member of the SED in 1946 after the forced unification of the SPD and KPD . In 1951/52 he was appointed lecturer for civil law at the Martin Luther University in Halle (Saale) . In 1952, he was with a thesis on "cooperative ownership and civil cooperative law" doctorate . From 1952 to 1956, Arlt was an aspirant for “kolkhoz and land law” at the University of Leningrad , where he received his doctorate again.

In 1956/57 Arlt was department head for civil law at the German Academy for Political Science and Law in Potsdam and at the same time professor with teaching assignment for “LPG and civil law” at the Humboldt University in Berlin. From 1958 to 1962 Arlt was editor-in-chief of the journal Staat und Recht and 1961/62 lecturer in civil law at the Martin Luther University in Halle. From 1962 to 1965 he was a member of the Potsdam District Board of the Science Union.

From 1963 to 1971 Arlt was a member of the People's Chamber. From 1959 to 1966 he was Vice-Rector at the German Academy for Political Science and Law in Potsdam and head of the “LPG and Land Law” department, and since 1966 Rector. Artl received his habilitation in 1964 . From 1969 he was also chairman of the Council for Political and Legal Research. From 1972 until the academy was closed in 1990, Arlt was a full professor and held the chair for agricultural law .

At the end of 1989 Arlt left the SED and campaigned publicly for the preservation of cooperative land use in the new federal states. He retired in 1993 and died in 1997.
