Focus of work

From 1970 to 2008 Lutz taught behavior therapy and behavior diagnostics at the University of Marburg. In addition, he worked as a therapist, supervisor as well as trainer and trainer . His main research interest was diagnostics . and clinical psychology. Today he develops and differentiates diagnostic instruments for evaluating therapeutic effects in various specialist clinics. He works on therapy programs, in particular to promote positive experiences and behavior (Euthyme therapy). His numerous publications are dedicated to these last topics.

His therapeutic teachers include Lutz Eva Jaeggi (Bochum), Ron Ramsay (Amsterdam), Frederick Kanfer (Champaign / Illinois, USA) and Dieter Kallinke (Heidelberg). This can be concluded from collaboration on publications .

A small center for behavior therapy was developed at the Philipps University of Marburg around 1975 . In this context, Rainer Lutz organized guest lectureships for Frederick Kanfer (USA), Ron Ramsay (Amsterdam) and Dieter Kallinke (Heidelberg) and was significantly involved in the organization of the first university course in behavioral therapy.

Around 1985 the association "Further training facility for clinical behavior therapy" eV (WKV) was founded in Marburg, which was supposed to provide qualified psychologists with the qualification for licensing as behavioral therapists. Rainer Lutz was instrumental in both the founding and the teaching activities.

In his standard work on behavior therapy literature, Jürgen Margraf attributes Rainer Lutz to "an important function in the development of behavior therapy (...) early on" in Germany. In contact with Frederick Kanfer (USA), Ron Ramsay (Amsterdam) and Dieter Schwarz (Psychosomatic Specialist Clinic Ammersee), Lutz developed behavioral therapy concepts as early as the 1970s. In 1982, in collaboration with Eva Koppenhöfer, he formulated a group therapy program “Little School of Enjoyment”. Building on this therapy experience, Rainer Lutz developed the general psychological and behavioral basics for Euthyme therapy, to which many publications have devoted itself in the meantime and which is of central importance in his work today. Frederick Kanfer once described Rainer Lutz as a "scientist-practitioner", his ideal of a clinical psychologist who was both scientifically and practically active.
