Rainer Ute Harms (born October 6, 1940 in Bilsen , Pinneberg district ) is a German politician ( CDU ). From 1971 to 1988 he was a member of the Landtag of Schleswig-Holstein .

Life and work

Rainer Ute Harms attended the Ludwig-Meyn-Gymnasium in Uetersen and completed a commercial apprenticeship . He was in the Bundeswehr and is a major in the reserve . In addition to his job as a mineral oil merchant , Harms attended evening school and graduated from high school. From 1966 he studied economics and philosophy in Hamburg and Birmingham and completed his studies with a degree in economics .

He is married and has three children.

Already during his student days Harms was involved in Hamburg as a member of the student parliament and as a faculty spokesman, in Birmingham he was a guest member of the Conservative Students Group. In 1963 he joined the CDU. In the state elections in Schleswig-Holstein in 1971 , 1975 , 1979 , 1983 and 1987 , Harms was elected to the Schleswig-Holstein state parliament as a direct candidate for the CDU in constituency 21 (Pinneberg-Nord). He was a member of the state parliament from May 24, 1971 to May 31, 1988. In the state parliament he was active in various committees, including the agricultural committee, the state planning committee and the home and legal committee.

Harms was also a CDU candidate in the Pinneberg constituency in the 1980 federal election , but lost to Reinhard Ueberhorst from the SPD . In the following federal election in 1982 he lost the constituency nomination to Ingrid Roitzsch , who was able to win the direct mandate for the CDU. He then decided not to move into the Bundestag as a successor to the state list.

Harms was honorary mayor of Bilsen from 1974 to November 2012 . He was confirmed at the local council meeting on June 26, 2008 and resigned before the end of the electoral term. In November 2013 Harms was appointed honorary mayor and honorary citizen. In 2002 he became an honorary citizen of the city of Bilzen in Belgium.

Honors

In 1982 he was awarded the Federal Cross of Merit on ribbon, and in 2009 he was honored with the award of the Freiherr vom Stein Merit Pin of the State of Schleswig-Holstein. In 2013 the German Fire Brigade Association awarded him the German Fire Brigade Medal of Honor.
