Raisa Andreyevna Obodowskaja even Rais (s) a Obodovskaya , ( Russian Раиса Андреевна Ободовская , Ukrainian Раїса Андріївна Ободовська Rajissa Andrijiwna Obodowska * 6. August 1948 in Merefa , Kharkiv Oblast , Ukrainian SSR , Soviet Union , † 30 July 2012 in Kharkiv , Ukraine ) was a Soviet cyclist and two-time track cycling - world champion .
Life
Raissa graduated from high school in Merefa and then studied at the Kharkov Radio-Technical College (Ukrainian Харківський радіотехнічний технікум ). During her studies, she began to train at the sports club Awanhard (Ukrainian Авангард ) in Kharkov.
Athletic career
At the track cycling world championships in Amsterdam in 1967 , she won second place in the single pursuit behind her compatriot Tamara Garkuchina . She finished the UCI track world championships in Rome in 1968 and in Brno in 1969 as world champion in the single pursuit. At the World Track Championships in Leicester in 1970 , she was again second behind Tamara Garkuchina in the single pursuit. Both at the UCI road world championships in 1970 in Leicester and at the road world championships in 1972 in Gap , she was third in the individual road race.
In addition, she was multiple champion of the Ukraine and the USSR in road and distance cycling and set two world records: She set the first world record in 1967 during the competition for the Cup of the USSR in Yerevan in a single-race pursuit over 5 km and the second world record put it in 1969 in an individual race over 3 km at the World Championships in Brno, Czechoslovakia .
Outside of active sports
In November 1969, Raisa Obodovskaya married and had two daughters. After finishing her sporting career in 1984, she studied at the State Institute for Physical Education in Kharkiv, which she graduated in 1991. After her studies, she worked as a sports teacher and senior trainer for cycling at the state sports center Awanhard . Eventually she became the director of a sports school in Kharkiv. She was awarded the Soviet title of Honored Master of Sport , and on July 15, 2008, she became an honorary citizen of the Kharkiv region . Obodovskaya died in Kharkiv at the age of 63.
