Rayon Zastavna (Ukrainian Заставнівський район / Sastawniwskyj rayon ; Russian Заставнянский район / Sastawnjanski rayon , Romanian Raionul Zastavna ) is a rayon (administrative district) in the oblast Tscherniwzi , in the western Ukraine .
geography
The center of the raion is the city of Sastavna . The Rajon borders in the north with the Rajons Salishchyky and Borschtschiw (both as part of the Ternopil Oblast ), in the east with the Rajon Chotyn , in the southeast with the Rajon Novoselytsia , in the south with the Oblast capital Chernivtsi , in the southwest with the Rajon Kizman and in the west on a short stretch to Horodenka Raion in Ivano-Frankivsk Oblast .
history
The Rajon was established in 1940 as part of the Ukrainian SSR after the occupation of northern Bukovina by the Soviet Union. In 2001, more than 99 percent of the population stated their nationality as Ukrainian. With the exception of the towns of Rschawynzi and Balamutiwka , all of the towns were in the historical Bucovina landscape .
On February 10, 2006, the village until then called Musorivka (Мусорівка) was renamed Mosorivka.
Administrative structure
At the municipal level, the Rajon is divided into 1 city council, 1 settlement council and 32 district councils, each of which is subordinate to individual localities.
The administrative area includes:
