Ralph Spiegler (born May 13, 1961 in Bad Kreuznach ) is a German lawyer and local politician ( SPD ). He has been the mayor of the Nieder-Olm community since 1994 .

Ralph Spiegler grew up with a sister in the small town of Meisenheim am Glan. Today he lives in Stadecken-Elsheim , one of the eight communities in the Nieder-Olm community. He is married and has two grown daughters.

Ralph Spiegler attended elementary school and the Paul-Schneider-Gymnasium in Meisenheim and passed his Abitur there in 1980. From 1980 to 1986 he studied law at the Saarland University in Saarbrücken and at the Johannes Gutenberg University in Mainz . He passed his first state examination in law in 1986. Then he did his basic military service. He then did his legal clerkship in the district of the Higher Regional Court of Koblenz. Spiegler passed his second state examination in law in 1991. After a brief stint as a public prosecutor at the Bad Kreuznach public prosecutor's office, he worked from 1991 to 1994 as a state official at the Rheinhessen-Palatinate district government and at the Bad Kreuznach district administration as a senior state official and as a youth and social affairs officer .

Spiegler has been a member of the SPD since 1984. In Meisenheim he was a member of the city ​​council from 1989 to 1994 .

In 1994 he was elected full-time mayor of the Nieder-Olm ( Rheinhessen ) community for the first time in a direct election. In 2002, 2010 and 2018 he was confirmed in office.

Since 2006 Spiegler honorary citizen of the Polish community Głuchołazy , in the province of Opole on the border with the Czech Republic area. A partnership has existed between the Nieder-Olm municipality and the Głuchołazy municipality since 1996.

Since 2012 Spiegler has been the alternate chairman of the Rhineland-Palatinate Association of Municipalities and Cities (GStB) based in Mainz , after being elected to the board there in 2004. In addition, he is a member of the Presidium of the German Association of Towns and Municipalities (DStGB) based in Berlin . In November 2014 he was elected Vice President and in June 2020 President of the DStGB with effect from July 1, 2020.

In addition, he is the deputy state chairman of the Social Democratic Community for Local Policy in Rhineland-Palatinate (SGK) and a member of the board of the Federal SGK.

In the district council of the Mainz-Bingen district , of which he has been a member since 2000, Spiegler was chairman of the SPD parliamentary group from February 2010 to September 1, 2017. In the summer of 2016, he declared that he would not run for the district council election in the Mainz-Bingen district in the following year, but would continue to be mayor of the Nieder-Olm community. Until August 2019, Spiegler was a member of the boards of directors of Sparkasse Mainz (he is still a deputy member) and Sparkasse Rhein-Nahe .

On March 4, 2018, Spiegler was elected mayor of VG-Nieder-Olm for the fourth time against two competitors in the first ballot with 53.5% of the votes cast.

Volunteering

Spiegler is a member of many associations. He has been chairman of the VG Nieder-Olm senior citizens' association since it was founded. Since 2007 he has been participating in the "Rheinhessen gegen Rechts" initiative.
