history

Until the abolition of apartheid , only whites were allowed to live in Randburg. The city was a stronghold of the ruling National Party . In the 1990s there was a decline in the inner city area. In 1996 Randburg became part of the Northern Metropolitan Local Council , and in 2000 it became part of the Metropolitan Municipality of City of Johannesburg. Initially it belonged to Region 3, since 2006 to Region B. On July 7, 2007, the African part of the Live Earth Concert, which was held on all continents, took place in the Coca Cola Dome .
