Raphaël Marionneau (born June 28, 1970 in Nantes , France ) is a Hamburg based DJ and graphic artist . With his special style of music consisting of ambient , chillout , downtempo , trip-hop , Ibiza sounds, ethnic and classical music, Marionneau created a new genre , the french chillout .

biography

At a young age he worked for various French radio stations, for example Radio Nantes and Radio Saga . He also began training as a graphic designer at the age of 16 . In 1993 he moved to Hamburg and worked there as art director at a graphics studio of the Peter Schmidt Group. Two years later, as art director and graphic designer, he created all of the flyers and posters at the Mojo Club until it closed in 2003.

In October 1996, Marionneau developed the concept le café abstrait , which was held as a french chillout event every month in the Mojo Club. It was the first chill-out event in Hamburg and has been the best known of its kind in Germany ever since. It is also very well known internationally. Due to the high response from the public and the press, Marionneau launched the concept le classique abstrait in June 2001 , which embodies a mixture of chillout, new and old classical music as well as film music . The event was supported by the record label Deutsche Grammophon . Analogous to both concepts, the compilations a tribute to le café abstrait and le café abstrait vol. 1 published.

On the radio station Klassik Radio , Marionneau designed his own program between August 2001 and February 2003 with the title le classique abstrait on Klassik Radio , in which he presented mixtures of old and new classical music. The show ran twice a week for two hours each and had an average of 70,000 listeners.

In 2001 he founded the record label Jubilee Records / Music Mail together with Nartak D. Schübel ( DJ Nartak ) , where he worked as a designer and musical consultant. Under the label were newcomers like Deep Dive Corp. , The Havana Boys , Orbient or Hippihaus . Due to the success of his compilations, he founded his own music label, Abstrait Music , in 2002 .

In addition to music, Marionneau continues to work as a freelance art director and designer. As the founder of the design studio the etrema project , he works for several agencies and customers in Hamburg.

Appearances and lectures

  • At a conference at Popkomm in 2001, Marionneau gave a presentation on classical music.
  • In the course of the publication of the compilation le café abstrait vol. 3 he toured 12 cities in Germany for two months in the summer of 2002, presenting his music and concepts. During this time he performed at the Luna Club ( Kiel ), Sage Club ( Berlin ), Karlstorbahnhof ( Heidelberg ) and the Mahogany Bar ( Augsburg ).
  • In Dortmund Konzerthaus Marionneau presented since 2002 every 3 months his concept le classique abstrait
  • During the Sand World 2003 he created the open-air event l'été abstrait on three evenings .
  • Since 2003 he has been accompanying the starry sky with his music every month in the Hamburg planetarium under the title le voyage abstrait . Around once a year he invites guest musicians to a le voyage abstrait deluxe . In 2009 there were B. Schiller , Mousse T. and Blank & Jones are guests in the planetarium
  • Since 1999, all appearances, concepts and ideas have been summarized under the keyword abstrait network , which also includes the abstrait events in Kiel (chill-out event), le concert abstrait (concert) and le noël abstrait (special Christmas event).
  • At a special screening of Fritz Lang's masterpiece Metropolis in the Babylon Cinema in Berlin on March 3, 2012, he performed as a live DJ and accompanied the classic with music.
  • On July 23, 2016, Raphaël Marionneau designed “le voyage abstrait” an open air concert on the meadow by the water basin in front of the Hamburg Planetarium in the Stadtpark, where he presented his album le café abstrait, Vol. 11 .
