Rational theater

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Rationaltheater is a German cabaret in Munich that opened in 1965 .

history

The cabaret artist and economist Reiner Uthoff founded the small theater together with the actor Horst A. Reichel and the student Ekkehard Kühn in January 1965 at Theater44 in Hohenzollernstrasse . The opening of the Munich Rationaltheater was on January 28, 1965 with the hangman's election time program .

From 1968 Uthoff was the sole director of the company. 1969 began with Knast - I. German Sing-Sing-Spiel, the series of programs dedicated to a topic. The cabaret, now only called Rationaltheater , moved to Hesseloherstrasse 18 in 1975/1976 . The Munich Lach- und Schießgesellschaft and TamS are located in its Altschwabingen neighborhood . Uthoff staged more than 35 pieces there and performed them together with Jochen Busse , Otto Sander , Sigi Zimmigart , Bruno Jonas and many others.

The establishment of a women's cabaret failed in 1979. In 1982 Uthoff gave up the ensemble cabaret and has since played Uthoff's daily news with updates. Guest performances and theater performances complemented the thematic program.

The programs in the rational theater were non-conformist from the start and did not shy away from any discussion. The result was 61 criminal proceedings for blasphemy, insulting the head of state and other offenses that can no longer be found in any German code of law today. The unwanted public relations work by the public prosecutor quickly made the cabaret known beyond Munich. In the guest book you can find names like Herbert Wehner , Willy Brandt , Rudolf Augstein , Günter Grass and the Ratzeburger Achter .

In addition, Uthoff built a 16 mm cinema in the theater with Edgar Reitz and Ula Stöckl , established film nights and showed films outside the mainstream. After the Bavarian regulation for the Clean Screen Campaign came into force , the cinema was observed by the police.

From 1994 to 1998 the rational theater was closed after disputes with the state capital Munich. The performances of the theater often ended with a scandal. From 2006, Max Uthoff , who followed in his parents' footsteps, used the theater and played his own program there.

In autumn 2008, Reiner Uthoff leased the theater to the filmmaker and producer Dietmar Höss . The premises remained unchanged and the philosophy behind the rational theater is the same as in 1965. The stage should primarily belong to newcomers, weirdos and politically committed people and is just as open to cabaret , theater , comedy and every form of cabaret as it is to DJs and musicians who want to play live. The cinema programs mostly show independent films. Here directors can show productions that have a hard time without distribution. "Amateurs" find a platform for their short films in a short film series.
