Ray Campi

Ray Campi (born Raymond Charles Campi on April 20, 1934 in Yonkers , New York ) is an American rockabilly singer and double bass player .

Career

Campi began recording for various labels from 1949, but many of his pieces were only released later, as part of the Rockabilly Revival.

In 1959 Campi recorded the first tribute single for D Records in memory of the plane crash in which Buddy Holly , Ritchie Valens and Big Bopper were killed.

During his career, Campi has worked with many prominent rock and roll musicians, including Gene Vincent , Colin Winski , Merle Travis , Mac Curtis , Rosie Flores and the Lennerockers .

His musical career took off again in the early 1970s when he was rediscovered by Ronnie Weiser, owner of Rollin 'Rock Records . Since then Campi has been playing regularly at festivals in Europe, giving concerts and recording new songs.

In 1980 Campi had an appearance in the music documentary film Blue Suede Shoes alongside artists such as Bill Haley , Freddie Fingers Lee and Crazy Cavan .

Campi has been a member of the Rockabilly Hall Of Fame since 1998 .

At Disneyland , Anaheim , Campi lends his voice to one of the alligators from the doll group The Swamp Boys , in the American Sings amusement ride for the song Polly Wolly Doodle .

In 2016 he recorded a satirical song about presidential candidate Donald Trump with Rip Masters .

Campi does not work exclusively as a musician, but was a high school teacher in Van Nuys , California from 1967 to 1992 .
