Leburton II government
The Leburton II government was in office in Belgium from October 23, 1973 to January 19, 1974. The five-party government formed by the Walloon socialist Edmond Leburton on January 26, 1973 included the Flemish ( CVP ) and Walloon Christian Democrats ( PSC ), the Socialists ( BSP-PSB ) as well as the Flemish ( PVV ) and Walloon ( PLP ) liberals. On October 23, there was a major reshuffle in the government, which continued to rely on the same parties. The number of state secretaries has been reduced from 14 to six. After a few months in office, Prime Minister Leburton declared back in January 1974. After the failure of the formation of a new government, early elections were scheduled for March 10, 1974. The reason for the resignation was the Ibramco affair, the failed attempt by the Belgian government to build a refinery together with the Iranian state oil company NIOC in the province of Liège near the Dutch border.
