Reichenau am Freiwald is a village in the market town of Bad Großpertholz in Lower Austria .

The scattered settlement Reichenau am Freiwald is located three kilometers east of the Karlstift am Postreitsteig , an old connecting road that led from Freistadt via Karlstift and Langschlag to the Danube. At its core a line village, which was probably founded in the late 13th century, Reichenau today consists of many scattered houses and several forest hooves.

The place name of the place mentioned for the first time in 1340 is interpreted as a productive wetland area and indicates fertile meadows. In 1850 Reichenau constituted itself with the Sternhof and the Laisterhof to an independent municipality, which in 1971 joined the municipality of Großpertholz. At that time, the upper part of the former community, the so-called Kohlstatt , including the Stemhof, was separated and assigned to the Langschlag community .
