Reinhard Omir
Reinhard Omir (born November 5, 1938 in Kreuzburg , Upper Silesia ) is a German artist .
Life
Reinhard Omir studied mechanical engineering from 1958 to 1959 and architecture from 1959 to 1963 at the Technical University of Munich . After that he worked mainly as a painter and sculptor . He also taught at the University of Duisburg from 1977 to 1982 in the field of fine arts. In addition, Omir created numerous works in public spaces, mostly as art in architecture .
His original goal was to study industrial design at the Ulm School of Design. Max Bill advised him to first study mechanical engineering up to the intermediate diploma. After two semesters, he gave up his dry course disappointed and now studied architecture in Munich. Besides, or actually mainly, he started to paint as an autodidact. The great role models were Paul Klee , Wassily Kandinsky , Piet Mondrian . During his architecture studies he often visited professors who were friends at the academy, Günter Fruhtrunk and Leo Kornbrust . In 1962, while still a student, he presented his pictures to the then director of the Städtische Galerie im Lenbachhaus , Hans Konrad Röthel , who immediately offered him a separate room for an exhibition in his museum. In the exhibition, he met his architecture professor Franz Hart , who invited him to design one of the four large glass windows for a new building for the Institute of Mechanical Engineering at the Technical University of Munich , now the Technical University, together with Rupprecht Geiger , Fritz Harnest and Walter Raum .
In the years 1966–1975 he was fascinated by the subject of movement in the visual arts: large kinetic works were created ( Werner-Heisenberg-Gymnasium Garching , comprehensive school Schwabmünchen, today Leonhard-Wagner-Realschule , German Embassy Kabul, Afghanistan) and kinetic objects that in the Bavarian State Painting Collections in Munich, as well as in private collections (e.g. Graf Metternich, Burg Adelebsen ).
