Reinhard Peter Gruber (born January 20, 1947 in Fohnsdorf / Styria ) is a Styrian writer.

Life

Reinhard P. Gruber comes from the working class in the upper Mur Valley. He attended the Fohnsdorf elementary school, then the Judenburg high school. After graduating from high school in 1965, he studied at the University of Vienna . From 1967 to 1968 he interrupted his studies and stayed as a novice in a Benedictine abbey in Vienna ( Schottenstift ). After two years he continued his studies, which he completed in 1973 with the Absolutorium of Theology.

In 1971 he founded the literary magazine Frischfleisch together with Nils Jensen and Reinhard Wegerth . His path took him to Graz in 1973 , where he worked as a culture editor.

Gruber came to his first publications in the Kronen Zeitung from 1973 as part of the series “Confrontations”, in which Alfred Kolleritsch wanted to confront readers with “works by well-known authors and critics” once a week. In the same year he became editor of the Kronen Zeitung. He primarily wrote theater and literary reviews, but also portraits, etc. a. about Gerhard Roth , Bernhard Hüttenegger , Alfred Kolleritsch or Wolfgang Bauer . In his glossary Steirisch g'sehn he prepared humorous satirical current events and topics and commented on them. From 1974 to 1981 he wrote 23 articles for the Styrian diary of the Steirerkrone, in which authors commented on current events (especially those related to literature).

He has been a freelance writer since 1978. He has written novels, short prose, plays, essays, musicals and aphorisms. He also writes radio plays and scripts for films. Gruber worked as a writer with other writers. Mainly with Kolleritsch, but also with HC Artmann , Barbara Frischmuth and Wolfgang Bauer. With Gruber's help, the “Stainzer Literature Summer” was also created, a project that was financed by the Stainz community . In the course of his love for Schilcher, Gruber received the “Bacchus Prize” from the “Austrian Wine Institute” for his special services in the name of Austrian wine.

His breakthrough came with his early work From the life of Hödlmoser in 1973, which was performed in various dramatizations. He landed another great success in 1988 with Das Schilcher-ABC , in which he ironically deals with the inhabitants of his homeland, western Styria .

At the beginning of 2009, Gruber sold his estate , consisting of correspondence from the publisher, letters and manuscripts, to the state of Styria.
