Reinhold Boeltzig

Reinhold Arthur Hermann Boeltzig , also Böltzig , (born March 9, 1863 in Berlin-Luisenstadt , † February 4, 1941 in Berlin ) was a German sculptor .

Life

Reinhold Boeltzig was born in 1863 as the son of Wilhelmine Henriette , b. Berg, and Julius Adolph Oswald Boeltzig were born in Berlin. The mother died when Boeltzig was six years old. The father initially worked as a decorative and theater painter , later as a colorist and pattern maker , and probably also as a master tailor . After the death of his first wife, he remarried and died in 1881.

With the seamstress Henriette Auguste Martha Wiese, who Boeltzig married in 1887, he had four sons and two daughters. She died in 1933.

Boeltzig died in Berlin in 1941 and found his final resting place in the Steglitz cemetery .

Boeltzig attended a higher private school and at 14 the art school in Berlin. During this time he worked in the studio of the sculptor Heinrich Pohlmann . In 1880 the family became impoverished and after the death of his father Boeltzig was forced to start an apprenticeship as a printer at the Woltersdorf'schen printing works in Gransee . He received the Gautschbrief in 1886.

In 1885 Boeltzig became editor and literary publisher of the magazine Das Pfarrhaus in Leipzig. He then worked as a proofreader for the Kreuzzeitung and translated works by Søren Kierkegaard , among others .

A scholarship from Georg von Siemens and the following state scholarships enabled him to study at the Academy of Arts from 1896 to 1900 . There he was a student of Gerhard Janensch and Peter Breuer's studio . After 1904 Boeltzig worked at the academy in a student's studio. In 1930 he was appointed professor. His studio was at Rückertstraße 13 (from 1930 No. 17) in Berlin-Steglitz . The building did not survive the war.

Boeltzig's works were cast in bronze by the Gladenbeck corporation , among others . Some of his works are:

  • The siblings and boy bust (Great Berlin Art Exhibition 1898)
  • A question (1901) in bronze and marble. The Hamburger Kunsthalle acquired a copy . Another stood in the garden of Villa Brandt in Berlin-Zehlendorf and was acquired by Sportjugend Berlin in 1976 . At first it stood at the seat of the citadel Spandau on the Brandenburg Bastion . With the move of the sports youth, it has been standing in front of the entrance of the Berlin State Sports Association at the Olympic Stadium since 1986.
  • Marble busts (1907) by Friedrich Eberhard von Rochow and Karl Abraham von Zedlitz in the Knight's Academy in Brandenburg an der Havel for the 200th anniversary of the same.
  • Tire thrower (1908) in bronze and porcelain. A bronze and life-size specimen was acquired by the City of Leipzig and placed on the western side of the Museum of Fine Arts on Augustusplatz in the summer of 1908 and melted down in 1942. Another is said to have been privately owned in Berlin in 1990. The model was acquired in 1909 by the Royal Saxon Porcelain Manufactory Meissen (mold number A.235, now under EDP mold number 73301) and made in porcelain with a light green garment. She has been evicted recently.
  • Mrs. Irmgart von N. (Great Berlin Art Exhibition 1907) in marble
  • Fruit collector (Great Berlin Art Exhibition 1907 and 1908) in bronze
  • Sinner (1908) was in marble and life size in the possession of Paul Strassmann .
  • Jesus figure (before 1908), larger than life in oak, in the church in Garstedt near Hamburg and in the box house of the Great National Mother Lodge “To the Three Worlds” .
  • Temptation / Lying Down (1911)
  • Jesus figure "Peace be with you" (1921), in oak, in the warrior hall of honor of the church in Hornow .
  • Monument commemorating the dead of World War II / war memorial in the lodge house “To the three globes”, was destroyed in World War II.
