Reinhold Daum (born October 13, 1892 in Nieder-Moos ; † probably 1945 ) was a German doctor , a Hessian politician ( NSDAP ) and a former member of the Landtag of the People's State of Hesse in the Weimar Republic . He was as SS Major doctor in the concentration camp KZ Osthofen to crimes against humanity in the Holocaust involved and died in 1945 under mysterious circumstances.

Life

Reinhold Daum was the son of the teacher Johannes Daum and his wife Katharina, née Klapprich. He was of Protestant denomination and married Viktoria, née Hoffmann , on February 15, 1921 in Framersheim .

From 1914 to 1918 he participated in the First World War . He completed his medical studies in Giessen and Freiburg in 1920 with the state examination and was awarded a Dr. Med. PhD . He worked in medical practices in Frammersheim and Oppenheim .

After the " seizure of power " by the National Socialists in 1933 he became the full-time manager of the Association of Statutory Health Insurance Physicians in Germany, Mainz district. In 1941 he became head of the Gauamt für Volksgesundheit Koblenz / Trier.

Reinhold Daum had been a member of the NSDAP since July 1926 ( membership number 41,461) and from 1931 to March 13, 1933 a member of the state parliament (his successor was Friedrich Kessel ). In 1932 he became district chairman of the NSDÄB . In 1933 he became an SS member (SS No. 55,964) and was promoted to SS-Obersturmbannführer there in 1939 .

As a camp doctor he was responsible for the medical “care” of the inmates of the Osthofen concentration camp . When the inmates were admitted and released, he certified that they were “capable of detention and work”. As evidenced by contemporary witness memories, there was no question of adequate medical care.

The circumstances of his death have not yet been clarified; there are only rumors that Daum took his own life in 1945.
