Remigio Ratti

Remigio Ratti (born November 14, 1944 in Balerna ) is a Swiss economist and politician .

education and profession

After attending school in Ticino , Remigio Ratti studied economics at the University of Freiburg and became a graduate economist in 1967 . He then specialized in welfare economics and transport at the University of Leeds and the University of Trieste . In 1970 he received his doctorate in economics and social sciences.

After his habilitation as a private lecturer in 1975, Remigio Ratti worked as a lecturer at the University of Freiburg. In 1982 he was appointed adjunct professor for regional economics.

In the following years he was also a visiting professor at the University of Neuchâtel , the University of Basel and the University of Bergamo . He is currently a lecturer in economics and institutions at the University of Italian Switzerland in Lugano .

Offices and politics

From 1978 to 1992 Remigio Ratti was a member of the Swiss Science Council. From 1992 to 1995 he was chairman of the Swiss Study Society for Spatial Planning and Regional Policy (ROREP) and from 1997 to 2000 of the federal advisory commission for international development and cooperation.

In 1995 Remigio Ratti was elected to the National Council. During his tenure he was a member of the EFTA / European Parliament delegation , the Science, Education and Research Commission (until 1998) and the Transport and Telecommunications Commission (from 1998).

In the spring of 1999, Ratti was, alongside Joseph Deiss and Adalbert Durrer, one of the three official candidates of the Christian Democratic People's Party (CVP) to succeed Federal Councilor Flavio Cotti , but was eliminated after the second round of voting.

Between January 1, 2000 and November 30, 2006 Remigio Ratti was General Director of the public radio and television company of Italian-speaking Switzerland ( RTSI ) and a member of the management of the Swiss Radio and Television Company (SRG SSR idée suisse).

Ratti is currently Chairman of the Board of Trustees of Swiss Solidarity and the Italian-speaking radio and television community.
