Remscheider Strasse 45
The residential and commercial building at Remscheider Strasse 45 is now a listed building in the Bergische city of Wuppertal in North Rhine-Westphalia .
Location and history
The house is on the eastern side of Remscheider Strasse in the district or urban district of Ronsdorf ( urban quarter Ronsdorf-Mitte / Nord ). The building forms a visual unit with the adjacent houses Remscheider Strasse 43 and 47, which were built at about the same time and in the same style . The former monument, Remscheider Strasse 41 , directly to the north, was a slate house that, due to long-term neglect of maintenance, became dilapidated and could no longer be preserved. It was therefore struck from the list of monuments around 2002 , then completely demolished and replaced by a new building. Just a few meters further north are the architectural monuments Remscheider Strasse 33 and 35 . On the opposite side of the street, the houses at Remscheider Strasse 30 and 46, as well as the former Prussian tapestry school ( Remscheider Strasse 50 ) and the nearby Steigerturm Ronsdorf are also listed.
Like the neighboring buildings to the north and south, which are also listed buildings (house numbers 43 and 47), the house was built in the late 19th century (1898).
Description and current use
The stone-built three-axle building consists of three full floors above the basement , which is accessible at ground level to the rear (due to the slight slope ), and has a slated mansard roof with dormers . The uniaxial central risalit is surmounted by an ornamental gable in the attic . The articulated and plastered facade on the street front is painted white and has historicizing style ornaments such as window friezes and an eaves cornice under the mansard roof.
In the ground floor of the house located in private hands, there is a shop whose premises extend to the ground floor rooms of the house next door 43rd Originally used by retailers , a service company is now located here . The upper floors are used as apartments. The back of the house, facing the street Am Stadtbahnhof , has an extension and is completely slated up to the basement.
Monument protection
The entire building was entered on March 7, 1988 under the number 1308 in the list of monuments of the city of Wuppertal.
