The residential and commercial building at Remscheider Strasse 47 is a historic building in the Bergisch city of Wuppertal in North Rhine-Westphalia .

Location and history

Wuppertal, Remscheider Strasse 47, 2014

The listed building was built in 1903 and is located on the eastern side of "Remscheider Straße" , corner of "Am Stadtbahnhof" in the district or district of Ronsdorf ( city quarter Ronsdorf-Mitte / Nord ). The building forms an optical unit with the houses Remscheider Strasse 43 and 45 , which are adjacent to the north in the same style and built around the same time ( turn of the 19th and 20th centuries) and are now also listed as monuments in the list of monuments of the city of Wuppertal. The formerly neighboring and listed building at Remscheider Straße 41 was a slate house that, due to long-term neglect of maintenance, became dilapidated and could no longer be preserved. It was therefore struck from the list of monuments around 2002, then completely demolished and replaced by a new building. Just a few meters further north are the architectural monuments Remscheider Strasse 33 and 35 . On the opposite side of the street are the houses Remscheider Straße 30 and 46 , as well as the former Prussian bandweaver school ( Remscheider Straße 50 ) and the nearby Steigerturm Ronsdorf (also listed).

The stone-built house has three full storeys on the street front and a developed, slated mansard roof with dormer windows . The basement / basement is due to the slight slope at the back of a basement . The plastered and white-painted facade is structured on the ground floor by suggested stone blocks . The upper floors have window cornices and a mansard cornice below the attic .

The building has an irregular floor plan . While the southern wing of the building has a trapezoidal front that is truncated towards the intersection, the slightly angled part of the house that adjoins the neighboring buildings forms a rectangle . At the intersection of both parts of the building there is a central projectile with an ornamental gable in the mansard area.

Rooms on the ground floor and in the basement were and are still managed as a restaurant / bar in the past (interrupted by temporary vacancies and often independently of each other) . The remaining part of the house consists of rental apartments.
