Location and history

Remscheider Strasse 46, view from the south of the house

The house is located in the city district and district of Ronsdorf ( Blutfinke residential area ) and is on the western side of Remscheider Strasse . It is one of the few buildings on this side of the street that remained unscathed during the air raid on Ronsdorf . The Catholic parish church of St. Joseph , 200 meters further north, was so badly damaged that the original building had to be demolished later in the post-war period due to dilapidation and was replaced by a modern new building. The formerly nearby restaurant Rheinischer Hof is no longer there either. About 100 meters further north, the residential building at Remscheider Strasse 30 has been preserved. Immediately to the south of the house is the former Prussian tapestry school and to the west in the Talsperrenstrasse the Steigerturm Ronsdorf . On the opposite side of the street, the historic buildings include the listed buildings at Remscheider Strasse 33 (known as the restaurant Zum Bergisches Haus ) and the residential and commercial buildings at Remscheider Strasse 35 , 43 , 45 and 47 . The historic building at Remscheider Strasse 41, which was also located here, was a slate house that, due to long-term neglect of maintenance, became dilapidated and could no longer be preserved. It was therefore deleted from the list of monuments around the year 2000 , then completely demolished and replaced by a new building.

The building was erected around the turn of the 20th century, the exact year of construction being unknown. It originally served as the house for the caretaker of the neighboring Prussian Textile School .

Description and current use

The house has a rectangular floor plan , two full floors and a converted attic . The building facing Remscheider Strasse at the gable end and at the eaves facing Talsperrenstrasse was built from unplastered rubble stones . Under the gable roof , the building has decorative boards painted white on both the gable and eaves sides. On the northern facade facing Talsperrenstrasse, an unmistakable signpost is painted in black on a white background, showing the way to the Ronsdorfer Talsperre .

Today the building is privately owned and used as a residential building.
