René Küng

René Küng (born June 2, 1934 in Allschwil ) is a Swiss sculptor .

life and work

René Küng grew up in Allschwil and attended the preliminary course at the Basel School of Applied Arts in 1950 . From 1952 to 1955 he did an apprenticeship as a stonemason and practiced the profession he had learned for a year and a half. Among other things, he participated in the restoration of the Basel Minster . In 1954 he received the Federal Art Grant . In 1958 he began to work as a sculptor. From 1964 to 1968 he was a teacher of sculpture at the Basel School of Applied Arts. Reinhard Klessinger and Adelheid Hanselmann were among his students at the time .

Since 1968 Küng has been working exclusively as a freelancer. He has lived in Schönenbuch since 1980 . Since 1966 he has participated in numerous exhibitions and since 1975 also solo exhibitions. Works by him have been acquired from public collections such as the Kunstmuseum Bern , the Aargauer Kunsthaus and the Museum zu Allerheiligen in Schaffhausen . In the latter he had the 1990 solo exhibition Sculptures, 1985–1990 .

Numerous works by Küng can also be found in public spaces and in churches, especially in Switzerland, but also in Greece , Ireland and the USA .

In 1992, Küng received the Culture Prize of the Canton of Basel-Landschaft , Fine Arts category .
