René Marik (born June 1, 1970 in Hildesheim ) is a German puppeteer , comedian, guitarist, singer and actor.

life and work

After completing secondary school and a broken apprenticeship as a car mechanic at the family's home at the time, a small village in the Westerwald , Marik graduated from the Peter-Paul-Rubens-Gymnasium at Siegener Rosterberg and initially studied mathematics at the University of Siegen until 1995 moved to the "Ernst Busch" Academy of Dramatic Arts in Berlin , where he studied "Puppetry". In 1999 he received his diploma . From 2000 to 2004 he was a permanent member of the ensemble at the Theaterhaus Jena . Further engagements followed, including at the New Theater in Halle (Saale) , at the Schwäbisch Hall open-air theater and at the Deutsches Theater in Berlin.

Marik is best known as a comedy artist, partly as a soloist, partly with other artists like Rainald Grebe , with whom he had already worked in Jena. However, the main part of his programs is the puppet theater. He appears regularly in the Quatsch Comedy Club and in the Bar every reason , both in Berlin.

At the beginning of his career as a comedian - while he was still engaged as an actor in the New Theater in Halle - regular appearances in the Steintor-Varieté , also in Halle. During this time he also developed his best-known figure, a blind, speech-impaired mole, whose YouTube appearances were found to be particularly funny by numerous viewers, recommended and ultimately viewed hundreds of thousands of times. As a result, he was invited more and more often to short cabaret appearances in numerous television shows. He now tours Germany regularly.

As a guitarist and singer, Marik appears (in his latest puppet show) under the stage name "Eminenz Don Mercedes Moped" and sings, accompanied by his keyboardist "Tastateur Professor Inge" (Ingo Günther), among other love songs, which he also alienates comedically, such as giving a rundown crooner mimes and anschmachtet the audience with exaggerated intensity.

In 2007 Marik received the Cabinet Prize in the Comedy category . In 2008 he won the jury award at the Prix Pantheon in the category of early maturity and spoiled . The jury stated that Marik had “given the once so stupid puppet theater a great subversive comeback”. In September 2008 his tour film Autschn! on DVD. In November 2010 he released his new DVD KasperPop .

In 2010 Marik acted as voice actor in the German version of the film Rapunzel .

When he was awarded the 1Live Crown on December 9, 2011, he announced that he would initially not create another program with his dolls and would instead concentrate on other things.

On September 5th, 2013 Marik's film Geld her oder Ouch'n! (Working title Sein oder nicht'n Gaage ), for which funds were raised through crowdfunding in 2012 .

In 2014 he announced his resignation and has been touring regularly with the ZeHage program again since 2015 ! Best Of + X through Germany.

His autobiographical book How an excavator fell on me once was published in autumn 2019 : A provincial youth . In it he describes his youth in the rural, armed forces-influenced Westerwald .

Puppet show

Marik's most popular figure is the Mole Mole (with blindfold), who meets either the Barbie doll ("de Barbe") or various characters from the Grimm fairy tale world and, above all, through his good-natured naivety as well as his limited syntax and speech or his idiosyncratic pronunciation stands out; for example “Hage! Someone ze Hage? ”(Hello! Someone at home?),“ Rapante ”(Rapunzel),“ Schneewante ”(Snow White),“ Froschn ”(frog),“ We ha Becha gage? ”(Who drank from my mug? ).

He plays, among other things, in the plays The Mole on the Moon , Rapante, Rapante! and snow shrouds the main role.

Other puppets are the frog Mr. Günther Falkenhorst , which looks like Kermit from the Muppet Show ; the chubby polar bear Kalle with a Berlin dialect and a penchant for Schultheiss beer, who comments on the sinking of the Titanic from his iceberg ; and a pair of cleaning rags ( Dominik and Schackline ).

In the second program, KasperPop , Hasskasper was added, a vicious, bad-tempered doll with a pointy nose and bald head, which ensures interactivity with the audience. Before the performance, a so-called Hasskasperbox is set up in the foyer or in front of the theater at the respective venues, in which the audience can play with the doll themselves and use it as an emotional outlet by being outraged by personal frustrations and objects of hatred. The resulting scenes are recorded and the best excerpts from the current program are displayed on the video screen. The Hasskasper was introduced into the game by Marik under the name "Grinsekasper" and speaks a strong Cologne dialect.

reception

“If Helge Schneider were to take over the Muppet Show and hire Kurt Schwitters as the author, then the result should be roughly what René Marik does with his hand puppets. The mini-dramas that he performs with his puppets are absolutely gorgeous. "

engagement

Marik is committed to learning to read and write. As part of the “iCHANCE” campaign, which is carried out by the Federal Association for Literacy and Basic Education , he played the well-known warehouse worker spot with his dolls in order to draw attention to the issue of illiteracy .
