Replicas is an American science fiction - thriller from director Jeffrey Nachmanoff from the year 2018. The film is about a scientist who clones his family after suffering a car accident. The main role was played by Keanu Reeves .

action

In Puerto Rico, neuroscientist William Foster is leading a research team at Biodyne to transfer human consciousness into a robot. You are on the verge of a breakthrough, but the decisive success is missing. The transfer of the deceased soldier “Patient 345” succeeds, but the robot panics and destroys itself.

While on an outing, Foster causes a car accident that kills his entire family. Instead of reporting the incident, he turns to his colleague Ed Whittle for help. Together they bring the bodies to Foster's house and steal equipment from Biodyne to clone the dead. Since there are only three tanks available, he cannot replicate a family member. He decides to lose who he cannot clone - the youngest daughter Zoe will be hit. Foster then erases the memory of her from the conscious copies of the rest of the family.

As the clones in the tanks grow, Foster continues to work on solving the transfer of consciousness. After the cloning process is complete, Foster puts his family in an artificial coma to buy more time. Eventually, he realizes that the robotic body prevented success because the brain cannot adapt to a synthetic body. The clones can then be transferred without any problems. Foster's family wakes up from a coma and appears to be going on as before.

When Biodyne receives a new test object, Foster rates its brain as too damaged to avoid trauma for the patient. Instead, he secretly copies his own consciousness. At home, Foster develops an algorithm to fool a replicated consciousness into thinking that the robot body is its own biological body. When his daughter wakes up in a sweaty nightmare in which she has seen her mother's death, Foster decides to sedate her and work on her memories again. His wife caught him in the process. Foster then tells her what happened.

At dinner with his family, Foster receives an unexpected visit from his boss, Jones. He knows about the clones because he caught Whittle when he was supposed to get rid of the bodies. Jones requests the algorithm to solve the compatibility problem from Foster and plans to kill the clones as their existence threatens the success of the project. Foster overpowers Jones and flees with his family, before he destroys his algorithm. However, the clones can be located via tracking transmitters automatically implanted in the spinal cord as part of the cloning process. Foster decides to go to the hospital with his family. Using defibrillation, they manage to deactivate the tracking device.

They continue to flee to a harbor to continue their escape by boat. Suddenly, however, Jones' men appear and kidnap the clones while Foster is preparing a boat. Foster is ordered to come to Biodyne.

At the meeting, Jones shoots Whittle. Thereupon Foster agrees to create a working algorithm again. When he's finished, Jones still wants to kill his cloned family. But Foster had transferred the copy of his own consciousness into the robot that comes to the rescue and overwhelms Jones and his men. Before Foster escapes, he negotiates a deal with the dying Jones. He leaves the robot behind, who should now take care of the matter.

Foster escaped to an island with his family. On the beach, he surprises his family with daughter Zoe, whom he had now also cloned.

The last scene takes place in Dubai. A very wealthy old man in a wheelchair approaches the cloned Jones. He extols the priceless advantages of a new life for the man and introduces him to his colleague, the robot Foster.
